Keitarou Ujiie is a Japanese electronic musician who operates under two main monikers: Ujico and Snail's House. He started uploading to SoundCloud in 2012 as Ujico—a childhood nickname a friend gave him that he's kept ever since.
In 2013, Ujiie founded Youth Composer Association, a Tokyo-based record label focused on developing young musicians. A year later, after getting into Hiromi Uehara and jazz fusion, he picked up piano and found his sound shifting. That inspiration led him to launch Snail's House as a separate project dedicated to what he calls "kawaii" music, officially kicking off on August 30, 2014, with "Nyan Nyan Angel!"
His early Snail's House EPs—Kirara and Kawaii Collective, both released in mid-2015—became known for their signature sound: high-pitched vocal samples, bright synths, and infectious melodies that lean into cuteness without being ironic about it.
The real turning point came in October 2017 when the music video for "Pixel Galaxy" dropped on YouTube. It went viral in a major way, introducing Ujiie to a much wider audience. Interestingly, the song itself never racked up huge numbers on streaming platforms, but the video itself has accumulated over 100 million views—a stark contrast that shows just how much YouTube's algorithm worked in his favor.
