Yoshiko Mita is a Japanese actress born in Osaka who studied at Joshibi High School of Art and Design in Tokyo. She started her career at Toei in 1960, staying with the studio until 1967 before going independent.
Best known for her role in W's Tragedy (1984), which earned her the Japan Academy Prize for Best Supporting Actress in 1986, Mita has built a versatile career spanning contemporary and period drama roles. She's won the Blue Ribbon Award for Best Actress twice—at the 30th and 35th ceremonies. During the early 1990s, she was consistently Japan's highest-earning actor and celebrity for tax purposes, topping the official list from 1991 to 1994.
Off-screen, she's married to Yasuo Takahashi and has two sons, both of whom became actors themselves.
