Ryuu Katou is an independent animator known for his restless experimentation across nearly every animation technique imaginable. After studying graphic design at Tama Art University (graduating 2004), he went on to earn a graduate degree in fine arts from Tokyo University of the Arts in 2007.
Since then, he's built a reputation creating short films, music videos, and commercials that showcase his willingness to jump between hand-drawn animation, watercolor, shadow play, and stop motion—sometimes within the same project. His work tends to feel more like the output of someone genuinely curious about what animation can do rather than someone sticking to a signature style.
