Seo Kouji is a manga creator from Shobara, Hiroshima. He broke into the industry in 1996 with the one-shot "Half & Half" in Fresh magazine, but it's his later sports-romance hybrids that made his name—particularly Suzuka and Cross Over, which blend high school romance with track and field and basketball respectively. Fans often note that he has a real knack for writing sports scenes, something he's said stems from his own high school track team days and genuine love of baseball.
Before launching his own series, Seo worked as an assistant to Oushima Tsukasa and trained under both Fujio Fujiko and Soda Masahito.
One quirk readers have picked up on: the female leads across his works—Half & Half, Cross Over, Suzuka, and Kimi No Iru Machi—tend to look remarkably alike, almost like variations on a type he keeps returning to.
In 2009 he did character design work for High School Girl Kimchi, a promotional mascot for Hokubi Construction.
