Starting his career around 1973 at Tatsunoko Production, he became known for work on some of anime's most iconic franchises. He's best remembered for scripting 11 episodes of the original Mobile Suit Gundam series, plus the entire Mobile Suit Gundam Movie Trilogy.

Beyond Gundam, he created several original series that have earned cult followings. Angie Girl and the J9 cosmos-rangers saga stand out—the latter actually sprawled across three interconnected TV series: Bryger, Baxinger, and Sasuraiger, which aired between 1981 and 1984. Monkey Punch collaborated with him on character designs for those shows.
