Joan Gale Robinson (1910–1988) was a British author and illustrator best known for her children's books. She got her start in 1939 with her first publication, but it's really her young adult novels that stuck around—especially When Marnie Was There, which came out in 1967 and became her most enduring work. Beyond writing, Robinson illustrated much of her own work, which wasn't uncommon for children's authors of her era but added another layer to her creative output.
