Born in Fuji, Japan in 1979, Fantasista Utamaro studied Textile Studies at Tama Art University and has become one of Japan's most innovative manga artists. He works across illustration, graphic design, and fashion design, and also directs animation. He's a member of Mashcomix, a creators' collective.
His work has caught international attention—he won recognition at Pictoplasma NYC Film Festival and Silhouette Film Festival Paris (2008), and was a finalist for Nike Bukatsu in the AD&D London awards that same year. He's collaborated with major brands including Nike and Diesel, and exhibited at Kuala Lumpur Design Week in Malaysia in 2010.
