He's best known for Sun-Ken Rock, which he's been serializing in Young King, but his path to manga was pretty unconventional. Originally he wanted to be a manga artist, so in college he studied physics—specifically to get better at drawing sci-fi. He went even further and pursued image technology in grad school, wanting to master the technical side of visual storytelling.
He debuted in 1993 while still a student, publishing shoujo manga in magazines. His entry into the Japanese manga scene came later in 2004, starting with "Ultimate Space Emperor Caesar," a monthly serialization in Comic Gum that became his first tankoubon release in Japan.
Around 2006, he released two complete sci-fi works—Hotel and Present—both in Morning magazine. He's been pretty prolific since then, with plans to launch his first weekly serialization starting in 2008.
Outside of work, he's passionate about cameras and cooking.
