Tsunomaru is a Japanese manga artist born May 27, 1970 in Chiba, best known for his comedic horse-racing series Midori no Makibao. He broke onto the scene in 1991 with his debut Go Go Pochu Mukin, which earned him the Shonen Weekly Jump newcomer's award right out of the gate. Midori no Makibao became his signature work, spawning a 61-episode anime and winning the 1997 Shogakukan Manga Award for children's manga.
His work is immediately recognizable thanks to a pretty distinctive art style—his characters tend to have pronounced monkey-like features: short builds, tiny eyes, oversized nostrils and lips. This quirk shows up especially in Mon Mon Mon!, where male characters often have exposed genitals as part of the comedic design. He works primarily in shounen manga.
