Miki Yoshikawa broke into manga professionally in 2003 with a one-shot called Glory Days in Kodansha's Magazine Special. She then worked as an assistant under Hiro Mashima on Fairy Tail—an experience she's credited with teaching her the fundamentals of the craft. In 2005, she published another one-shot, Yankee-kun to Megane-chan, in Shonen Magazine Wonder.
Yoshikawa's major breakthrough came with Yamada-kun and the Seven Witches, which launched in 2012 and became a massive hit, moving over 3 million copies. Dragon Ball was a key influence on her early work; at Anime Expo 2015, she mentioned studying Toriyama's panels and trying to replicate his approach. She's also been vocal about how much Mashima taught her during her assistant days.
