Brian Bloom
Bloom grew up in Merrick, New York, alongside his brothers Scott (a producer-actor) and Mike (a musician). He caught the acting bug early, doing commercials as a kid before landing his breakout role in Sergio Leone's Once Upon a Time in America. That led to a gig playing Dusty Donovan on the soap opera As the World Turns, where he became the youngest Daytime Emmy winner for Outstanding Young Leading Man at the 12th Daytime Emmy Awards. The soap opera grind eventually wore him down, though, and he bounced out to pursue TV movies and guest spots instead.
Throughout the '80s and '90s, Bloom carved out a solid career doing made-for-TV films aimed at younger audiences—Crash Course, Dance 'til Dawn, Desperate for Love—which opened doors to recurring roles on shows like Melrose Place, CSI: Miami, Law & Order: SVU, and HBO's Oz. He's probably best known to TV viewers for playing the unhinged cult leader Jonas Sparrow in Joss Whedon's Dollhouse and for a 1994 TV movie series where he took on the Burt Reynolds classic role of Bandit.
His working relationship with director Joe Carnahan became a major part of his career. They collaborated on Cadillac commercials and Bloom co-wrote and starred in the 2010 A-Team film, where he played the mercenary Pike.
More recently, Bloom's leaned heavily into voice acting across games and animation. He's voiced Captain America in The Avengers: Earth's Mightiest Heroes and various Marvel fighting games, Alex Shepherd in Silent Hill: Homecoming, Kane across the Kane & Lynch series, Jackie Estacado in The Darkness II, and B.J. Blazkowicz in the newer Wolfenstein games. He's also done extensive voice work for BioWare, most notably voicing the charming dwarf bard Varric Tethras in Dragon Age II and Dragon Age: Inquisition.
Outside acting, Bloom's into writing, cooking, and furniture design. He runs an online store called Animal World Network and practices bojuka, a rare martial art.
