Born in Inage-ku, Chiba Prefecture, Japan, Matsuko Deluxe is a columnist, essayist, and TV personality best known for his flamboyant cross-dressing persona and outspoken advocacy for LGBTQ+ rights. His willingness to discuss his own sexuality openly on air has made him a distinctive voice in Japanese media.

He started out as a salaryman after finishing beauty school, but the work didn't stick. Inspired by LGBT activists, he pivoted to the publishing world, eventually working as an editor and writer for Japanese gay magazines like Badi and Barazoku. In his late twenties, he left that job too and spent time as a NEET—which might've been the end of his story if essayist Usagi Nakamura hadn't spotted his potential and helped get him discovered.

His media career took off from there. He made his TV debut in 2000 on Tokyo R&R and has since become a regular talking head on shows like Goji ni Muchuu! and Profile: Natural Eight, where he offers commentary with his trademark candor and humor.
