Susumu Hirasawa is a Japanese electropop artist born April 2, 1954 in Tokyo. He got his start in the progressive rock scene during the 1970s, playing in Mandrake from 1972 to 1978—a King Crimson and Yes-influenced group he formed while studying at Tokyo Designer Gakuin College. The real turning point came in 1979 when he co-founded P-Model, a techno-pop band that included two other former Mandrake members. P-Model became his main project through the 1980s, though the band went on hiatus before reuniting in 1992. He started releasing solo material in 1989 and has kept both sides of his career active ever since, though P-Model wrapped up by 1999. These days he continues under the Kaku P-Model banner, which is essentially a solo extension of the P-Model legacy.
