Hoshi Akari was born in 1956 in Hyogo Prefecture, Japan. She is a graduate of the Department of Literature at Ritsumeikan University.
Today she works at a school for handicapped children in Hyogo Prefecture. Based on the various experiences she had during her time there, she wrote several books, two of which have been adapted into animated feature films, Momoko Kaeru no Uta ga Kikoeru yo and Daichan Daisuki.
