When Chocotan, a tiny dachshund, accidentally eats a mysterious flower, she suddenly gains the ability to talk. With her new voice, the enthusiastic pup becomes Nao Hatori's devoted supporter and best friend. Hatori and Chocotan make regular trips to the park, mostly hoping to bump into Yamato Arima and his dog Happy—Hatori's crush. Things start looking up when they finally do run into him, but his classmates show up and pull his attention away before anything meaningful happens. To make it worse, Chocotan loses her ability to speak right when Hatori needs her most, leaving the heartbroken girl without her emotional anchor.
