Synopsis

After the events of the first series, Chizuru and the Shinsengumi escape Kyoto and head to Edo by ship. With their commander Isami Kondou away, Toshizou Hijikata takes over as acting leader—but he's dealing with more than just the stress of command. He's struggling with an intense, uncontrollable bloodlust that's affecting not just him, but spreading to some of his men as well, pushing them toward madness. Things shift when Kondou finally returns with new orders from the emperor: defend the castle under a new unit name, the Kouyou Chinbutai. But war is unpredictable. Allegiances crumble, power dynamics change, and nothing stays stable for long. As Hekketsuroku unfolds, Chizuru finds herself caught in the middle of actual warfare while continuing to hunt for her father. Through it all, her connection with Hijikata deepens.
