A long time ago, humanity nearly went extinct when massive magical insects evolved into unstoppable killing machines. The survivors retreated to floating cities, abandoning the surface entirely. But they weren't defenseless—wizard academies across the sky kingdoms trained mages to fight back against the bug swarms. Kanata Age used to be a celebrated swordsman called the "Black Master," but he's since become a pariah. He gets an unexpected shot at redemption when he's assigned to train Team E601, a squad of three female mages who are clearly struggling.
