Synopsis

After Kafka Hibino gets captured and revealed to be Kaijuu No. 8, the Defense Force faces an unusual problem: what do you do with a kaijuu that actually wants to help? Since Kafka's the first of his kind to side with humanity, they decide to station him with the First Division—their strongest unit—and let his power work for them. Of course, not everyone's convinced he's trustworthy, so he's got to prove himself fast. When ant-like kaijuu swarm an area, Kafka and the First Division get thrown into action. Things start off okay thanks to his friend Kikoru and their captain Gen Narumi holding their own, but then Kafka can't transform. That's when Kaijuu No. 9 shows up specifically to kill him and steal his power—and suddenly the whole mission goes sideways. With everything falling apart, Kafka has to dig deeper than ever before if he wants to survive this and keep chasing his real goal: fighting alongside Mina Ashiro, his childhood friend and the captain of the Third Division.
