Kafka
Kafka's the protagonist of Kaiju 8-gou, and honestly, his whole story hinges on this one dream he couldn't let go of. He's always wanted to join the Defense Force—that was the goal from the start. But life had other plans, and he ended up stuck in the cleanup crew instead, dealing with the aftermath of kaiju attacks rather than actually fighting them.
Everything changes when a kaiju gets inside his body. Instead of killing him, it gives him the ability to transform into a humanoid kaiju form, basically turning him into something between human and monster. With this new power, he sees his shot and decides to give the Defense Force another try. The whole series basically follows him working toward that dream while dealing with what he's become in the process.
