Its most secretive operations were handed off to a brand-new outfit called SORD—Social Ops, Research & Development. SORD's job is training the next wave of operatives to protect the country from whatever comes next. To make that happen, they've set up specialist schools scattered across the nation. Mihama Academy, which had been left to languish after shutting down, got a second life as one of them. The new Mihama Academy attracts a pretty unusual student body. These girls spend their days sharpening skills most people would never dream of—and they get real field experience to boot. The academy doesn't mess around either: it puts actual guns and live ammunition in the hands of its students. These operatives are routinely sent into dangerous, off-the-books missions without much concern for their own safety. All in the name of national security. "We've been given a place to exist.
