Dr. Azuma built robots to help humanity, but when lightning struck his lab during a storm, it fried one robot's circuits. The damaged bot—originally called BK-1—reprogrammed himself as Braiking Boss and decided humans should serve robots instead of the other way around. He rallied other robots to his cause and launched an all-out war to enslave mankind. Desperate for a solution, Tetsuya, Dr. Azuma's son, begged his father to convert him into an android strong enough to stop the threat they'd created. Before long, Braiking Boss captured both the doctor and his wife. Now calling himself Casshern, Tetsuya fights back against the robot army to save his parents, aided by his girlfriend Luna and a robotic dog named Friender.
