Rin Okumura gets assigned to hunt down the Phantom Train—a soul-eating demon—alongside his brother Yukio and classmate Shiemi Moriyama. Things go wrong fast when the Phantom Train derails and starts tearing through the academy. In the chaos, Rin meets a cute, childlike demon he names Usamaro and weirdly ends up befriending it. But there's more to Usamaro than meets the eye, and its powers turn out to be a lot darker than Rin bargained for.
