Descending Stories: Showa Genroku Rakugo Shinju
Shouwa Genroku Rakugo Shinjuu: Sukeroku Futatabi-hen
Even as a shin'uchi—the highest rank in rakugo—Yotarou still can't figure out who he is as a performer. He's stuck between his master's style and the memory of Sukeroku's completely different approach, and something crucial is missing from his act: his own voice. The theaters fill up because of him, but rakugo as a whole is dying out, and he's one of the few who even tries anymore. Yakumo, meanwhile, is carrying rakugo on his shoulders almost single-handedly. He's aging, and while his performances are still incredible, he knows he can't keep this up forever. That anxiety only gets worse when an old friend from his past starts showing up more often. Then there's Konatsu, raising her son alone—which Yotarou hates. He wants her to marry him so he can help raise the kid as his own. Shouwa Genroku Rakugo Shinjuu: Sukeroku Futatabi-hen wraps up Yotarou and Yakumo's story. They're both fighting personal demons while trying to save an art form that's almost gone.
