After defeating the Easter Corporation, Amu and the Guardians get back to their regular duties—hunting down stray X Eggs and keeping the peace at Seiyo Academy. But with most of the council graduating soon, they're facing a real problem: what happens to the Guardians next year? To keep things going, they decide to recruit two Guardian Apprentices, banking on the hope that one of them will eventually develop their own Heart's Egg. One of the new recruits is Rikka Hiiragi, an energetic girl with a pretty unique skill—she can actually talk to X Eggs. It's something the Guardians have never been able to do before, so they're naturally curious about her. The thing is, Rikka's terrified they'll reject her if they ever find out the real reason she can communicate with them, or what she actually does with that ability.
