Reinhard von Müsel crushes the Free Planets Alliance at the Fourth Battle of Tiamat, cementing his status as the Galactic Empire's rising star. He returns to the capital of Odin in triumph, promoted to High Admiral and given the noble title of Count von Lohengramm. Meanwhile, Yang Wen-li makes a quieter homecoming to the Alliance capital of Heinessen, where he reconnects with his closest friends. Both commanders finally have time to breathe—but not for long. At the instigation of the scheming Duke Otho von Braunschweig, Imperial High Command orders Reinhard to invade the Alliance with a fleet of twenty thousand ships. When the Duke tips off the Alliance leadership, they respond by assembling three fleets totalling forty thousand ships to recreate the legendary Battle of Dagon and crush the incoming attack. Reinhard's outnumbered two to one, but he's got a brilliant strategy up his sleeve. The problem? Yang sees right through it. The real question becomes whether anyone in the Alliance chain of command will actually listen to his warning in time.
