Siegfried Kircheis is a young captain in Reinhard's fleet and his closest friend—pretty much the only person who can talk him down when his ego gets out of hand.
He came from nothing, which is part of why Reinhard liked him from the start. They met around age ten when Reinhard's family moved in next door, and Reinhard immediately decided "Siegfried" was too common and started calling him Kircheis instead. The name stuck, and so did the friendship. Later, when the emperor took Reinhard's sister Annerose as a concubine, she made Kircheis promise to always look after her brother. He's kept that promise ever since.
Kircheis followed Reinhard into the military, and the two rose through the ranks together—a lot of hardship along the way, but eventually Reinhard earned a title and got command of his own fleet. That opened up everything that came after.
What makes Kircheis valuable isn't just loyalty, though that's obviously huge. He's a genuinely sharp tactician who can read Reinhard's moves before they happen and sometimes even anticipate where his elaborate plans are headed. He fights alongside Reinhard from the bridge of his red battleship, the Barbarossa, and he's one of the few people willing to push back when Reinhard's ambition or arrogance starts running the show. He believes completely in Reinhard's abilities and thinks his intentions are righteous. His whole goal in life is basically to help Reinhard get where he's meant to go.
