Synopsis

After a failed alchemy experiment tears their lives apart, brothers Edward and Alphonse make a desperate—and forbidden—attempt to resurrect their recently dead mother. The transmutation backfires catastrophically. Alphonse's body is obliterated, while Edward loses a leg in the blast. Rather than let his brother disappear entirely, Edward sacrifices his remaining arm to bind Alphonse's soul to a suit of armor, trapping him in metal. Their neighbors, Pinako Rockbell and her granddaughter Winry, take them in. Winry's a mechanical genius who builds Edward sophisticated prosthetics using automail, a durable metal typically used for robots and weapons. After years of recovery and training, the brothers hit the road searching for the Philosopher's Stone—a legendary artifact that could let them break alchemy's most fundamental rule: Equivalent Exchange. Edward's reputation grows as he travels, eventually earning the title "Fullmetal Alchemist." But as the brothers pursue their goal, they stumble onto something much bigger—a conspiracy that could reshape the entire world.
