Synopsis

A teenage boy lives with his parents in a house that's literally on fire, though he's too caught up in his own head to really deal with it. He won't drink black coffee and stubbornly refuses his mother when she offers him a sugar cube to help—typical adolescent pushback. He ignores his dad's concern too, wrapped up in whatever internal struggle he's got going on and acting out in small, petty ways like kids do. Desperate to impress some girl, he steals a motorcycle and crashes it. When he checks his pockets afterward, he finds a bill he'd stolen from his mom's purse—except it's somehow turned into a sugar cube now. Instead of using this weird moment as a chance to fix things with his family, he brings the sugar cube to his friends. They're not having it though. They reject him and toss it away.
