In the world of Prester, flight dominates everything thanks to Claudia Fluid—a liquid extracted from crystals found on the planet. An all-powerful organization called the Guild controls the skies with an iron grip, holding a monopoly on engines that run on this fluid. They also act as mediators between the warring nations of Anatoray and Disith as environmental collapse pushes both sides toward conflict. Caught between these powers are Sky Couriers, independent pilots flying small two-person vanships. Last Exile centers on two teenage friends chasing their parents' legacies: Claus Valca, whose father was a renowned vanship pilot, and Lavie Head, his navigator and best friend. As couriers, their dangerous job means flying through the Grand Stream—a treacherous air current that divides the two nations and challenges even full-sized airships. Everything changes when they accept a high-priority job to transport an orphan girl named Alvis Hamilton to the battleship Silvana. What seemed like a straightforward delivery pulls them into a massive conflict that puts them directly at odds with the Guild itself.
