Range Murata is a Japanese artist and designer who blends Art Deco with anime aesthetics in a way that feels distinctly his own. He's best known for his conceptual design work on Last Exile and Blue Submarine No. 6, both of which showcase his signature style.
He got his start in the early '90s doing design work for video games and has never really left that world—he's still picking up game projects, like the character designs he did for the PS2 game Spy Fiction. Over the years he's published over a dozen art books, with Robot, Rule, and futurhythm standing out as some of his most notable collections. In 2006 he was voted Best Artist of the Year at the Seiun Award.
For the ROBOT series, Murata assembled a roster of top-tier artists to collaborate with him, including Yoshitoshi ABe and Ugetsu Hakua, who've contributed to Volume 1 and beyond.
