Synopsis

Ushio Aotsuki is a stubborn middle schooler whose priest father keeps going on about youkai—supernatural monsters that Ushio couldn't care less about. That changes fast when he's cleaning the temple basement and stumbles onto something impossible: a massive, terrifying youkai pinned in place by an ancient spear. The youkai's name is Tora, and he's been stuck there for five hundred years. He immediately starts trying to talk Ushio into freeing him, but Ushio isn't buying it. Then a sudden youkai attack threatens his friends and home, forcing his hand—Tora is the only real weapon he's got, spear or not. From that point on, Ushio and Tora are stuck with each other. The ancient Beast Spear is Ushio's only leverage if things go south. Together, they're thrown headfirst into the supernatural world, and Ushio gets a harsh wake-up call about just how real and dangerous youkai actually are.
