Synopsis

In the town of Engamori, yokai, gods, and humans have coexisted peacefully for centuries. That changes when Buchio, a 20-year-old cat, mysteriously transforms into a nekomata—a two-tailed cat yokai—just as he's nearing the end of his life. The transformation lets him stick around with his human family longer, but it also leaves him confused about why it happened and what his newly acquired powers are supposed to do. Around the same time, a young elementary schooler named Mutsumi Sugimoto starts growing closer to Jirou, a tengu with the appearance of a crow. Jirou gradually becomes an important figure in her life, helping fill the emptiness left by her father's death. Neither of them is great at expressing what they really feel at first, but over time they develop a genuine bond where they look out for each other.
