Synopsis

It's 1991, and arcade games are huge. Being a pro gamer isn't really a thing yet—it's basically a pipe dream—but that doesn't stop sixth-grader Haruo Yaguchi from wanting to make it happen. He's good enough to earn respect around the local arcades, and that's given him plenty of confidence. Then Akira Oono, a girl from his class, destroys him at Street Fighter 2, and his whole world crashes. Akira's got everything: money, looks, brains. She's basically perfect. But Haruo never cared about any of that, because no matter what else he lacked, he was the best at video games—or so he thought. Now that someone can actually beat him, he can't decide between hating her and being thrilled that he's finally found someone worth playing against.
