Synopsis

Night Raid is the secret assassination wing of the Revolutionary Army, a group dedicated to taking down Prime Minister Honest. The guy's basically a tyrant—he manipulates the young emperor and bleeds the country dry while ordinary people suffer. The assassins in Night Raid know what they do is dark work. They're good at killing, sure, but they're under no illusions about it being righteous. They expect to pay for their actions eventually. The story centers on Tatsumi, a kid from a backwater village who joins up after initially coming to the capital hoping to earn money for his struggling hometown. He's inexperienced and idealistic, but he buys into Night Raid's mission and sticks around. As he gets pulled deeper into their world, Tatsumi faces off against the Empire's forces, encounters dangerous enemies with superhuman weapons, and gets forced to confront hard questions about his own morals. Mostly, he has to figure out what it actually means to be an assassin fighting for something bigger than himself.
