In the distant future, war has been completely reshaped by Objects—massive spherical tanks wrapped in armor that laughs off conventional weapons while packing enough firepower to level anything in their path. They're essentially unbeatable, which makes them the deciding factor in every conflict. But that's all about to change. Qwenthur Barbotage is a student in Object Design, and Havia Winchell is a radar analyst from a noble family. Both serve in the Legitimate Kingdom's 37th Mobile Maintenance Battalion, supporting the Baby Magnum, one of their nation's Objects. When a battle goes sideways, they find themselves in the worst possible position: regular infantry facing down an enemy Object with no way out. As they fight to survive and protect their squad, something unexpected happens—something that fundamentally changes how the world sees Objects. Heavy Object follows Qwenthur and Havia as they travel the globe with Milinda Brantini (the Baby Magnum's pilot) and their commander Frolaytia Capistrano. The unit keeps getting thrown into impossible fights, each one more dangerous than the last. They have to stay sharp and brave just to survive encounters with Objects that seem designed to be unstoppable.
