Havia comes from the prestigious Winchell family and enlisted in the military largely to build up enough reputation to claim his position as the family's head. He's Qwenthur's closest friend and combat partner on their assignments—basically the muscle of the duo. The real motivation behind his ambition comes out later: he actually wants to take over the Winchell family specifically so he can end the long-running feud with the Vanderbilts. It's personal, too—he's engaged to a Vanderbilt, so settling that family conflict would let them actually be together.
