Synopsis

Souma Yukihira grew up cooking at his father's restaurant, working as a sous chef and constantly dreaming up new dishes. He wanted nothing more than to eventually take over the place and surpass his old man's skills. That plan falls apart when his father suddenly decides to close the restaurant and move to New York instead. Rather than follow him, Souma enrolls at Tootsuki Culinary Academy—an elite school where 90 percent of students wash out before graduation. The place is known for its "Shokugeki," brutal cooking duels that students use to settle everything from disputes to challenges. His father tells him that surviving three years at Tootsuki and actually graduating is the only way he'll ever get good enough to surpass him. Souma quickly discovers the school lives up to its reputation. The curriculum is punishing, the competition is cutthroat, and everyone around him is talented. To make it through and chase his dreams, he'll need more than just cooking skills—he'll need to figure out how to compete against the best culinary students in the country.
