Souma is one of the manga's main protagonists and the son of Jouichirou Yukihira. He grew up working at his father's restaurant, Restaurant Yukihira, until it closed, and now attends Tootsuki Culinary Academy as a resident of Polar Star Dormitory. Despite facing discrimination as a newcomer to the elite school, he's driven to become the world's best chef—partly fueled by his rivalry with his father.
He's naturally energetic and restless, always pushing himself forward in the kitchen. This constant drive means he's willing to experiment with unconventional flavor combinations, like grilled squid tentacles with peanut butter, even when they don't always land.
