It's 2015, over a decade since Second Impact nearly destroyed humanity. In the aftermath, a secret's been kept from the world: there are beings called Angels—massive, hostile creatures intent on triggering a Third Impact and finishing what's left of mankind. Shinji Ikari gets summoned to Tokyo-3 by his estranged father Gendou. He figures his dad finally wants to reconnect after his mother died and years of separation. Wrong. Turns out Gendou brought him there to pilot Evangelion Unit-01, a massive machine designed to fight the Angels. Suddenly Shinji's thrown into humanity's last line of defense against wave after wave of increasingly devastating attacks. And he has no idea he's just become a pawn in a plan that could reshape humanity's entire future.
