Synopsis

Thirty thousand Japanese players suddenly find themselves trapped in Elder Tale after a game update leaves them unable to log out. For Shiroe, a socially awkward college student and veteran player, the shock wears off quickly—he's too busy figuring out what's really going on. As he adapts to this strange new reality, Shiroe realizes he'll need to take charge. He works to stabilize Akihabara, the virtual city now filled with players trying to survive, while also dealing with the game's NPC inhabitants, who turn out to be more than just code. His friend Naotsugu gets pulled into the chaos after logging in for the first time in years, only to discover he's stuck. Then there's Akatsuki, a small but deadly assassin who decides Shiroe's her master whether he likes it or not. What unfolds is part fantasy adventure, part political thriller as Shiroe—a natural strategist—tries to make sense of an impossible situation and figure out how to lead people through a world that shouldn't be real.
