Shiroe was a graduate student in engineering when Elder Tale's world became real and he got trapped in it. He's been playing since middle school, so he knows the game inside and out—seriously, his knowledge of Elder Tale's mechanics and lore is almost encyclopedic. The game itself is notoriously complex and deep, which probably appealed to him in the first place.
On the surface, he comes across as a cautious, introverted loner. There's definitely some truth to that—he's socially awkward and tends to keep to himself. But it's not that he dislikes people. He's just fiercely independent and doesn't trust people who seem to have hidden agendas. When someone's genuinely in trouble, though, he'll step up without hesitation. He's got a particular soft spot for beginners, especially the twins Tohya and Minori. His friends have noticed he can get pretty protective of anyone he actually cares about—Nyanta used to give him grief about it.
