Tenma Matsukaze is a new student at Raimon Junior High who joins the soccer team because he loves the sport. The school has a legendary reputation from winning the Football Frontier International—a prestigious world tournament for youth teams—a decade ago. But these days, Raimon's soccer program has lost its spark. That's because Japanese soccer has fallen under the control of an organization called the Fifth Sector, which basically runs the show. They decide which teams win and lose, controlling matches from behind the scenes. All this manipulation has crushed the competitive spirit out of Japan's soccer community, leaving players burned out and disillusioned. Tenma and his teammates decide to fight back against the Fifth Sector's stranglehold on the sport.
