Synopsis

In the American Old West, the world's greatest race is about to kick off. Thousands of people are gathering in San Diego for a chance to travel over six thousand kilometers and claim the fifty million dollar prize. Since the age of horses is dying out, racers can use whatever vehicles they want. The competitors will have to push through brutal conditions, covering up to a hundred kilometers a day across unexplored wastelands. The Steel Ball Run is genuinely unlike anything else. Johnny Joestar shows up in San Diego as a spectator. He's a former horse racer who's been paralyzed for two years, and he's curious to see what this crazy race is all about. That's where he meets Gyro Zeppeli, another racer who carries two steel balls instead of guns. Johnny watches Gyro use one of his steel balls to pull off something impossible—he makes a man shoot himself during a duel. When Johnny touches the steel ball himself, he feels this power surge through his legs and actually manages to stand up for the first time in years. Desperate to understand what he just experienced, Johnny enters the race, and that's how his bizarre cross-country adventure begins.
