Synopsis

High school student Ayato Kamina's ordinary life gets turned upside down when Tokyo is suddenly attacked by futuristic fighter jets. In the chaos, he meets a woman named Haruka Shitow who works for a government organization called TERRA. She drops a bomb on him: he's been living inside a time bubble called "Tokyo Jupiter" this whole time, created by the Mulians—interdimensional humanoids trying to isolate and conquer the city. TERRA's been fighting to break through the barrier ever since. Ayato freaks out and runs. He bumps into his classmate Reika Mishima, who takes him to a place called the Shrine of Xephon. There's a massive egg there, and when Reika sings, something awakens in Ayato. He connects with a being called RahXephon, which bursts out of the egg. Haruka catches up with him again and pushes him to join TERRA's fight against the Mulians. Now stuck between two sides, Ayato has to figure out what he actually wants while dealing with false memories and questioning who he really is in this messed-up new reality.
