Synopsis

Two rival powers have been locked in a centuries-long struggle for control of the Milky Way. The Galactic Empire runs on absolute monarchy under Kaiser Friedrich IV, where a rigid nobility works to crush any hint of rebellion. The Free Planets Alliance looks good on paper—a representative democracy—but its High Council is rotten with corruption, and its leaders deliberately fuel conflict to boost their popularity. For ages, neither side could get a real edge. That changes when two military prodigies emerge on opposite sides. Reinhard von Lohengramm starts as a low-ranking noble, but his strategic genius and his sister's position as the Kaiser's favorite get him promoted to High Admiral. He's got ambitions to conquer the galaxy and bring humanity under his rule. On the Alliance side, there's Yang Wen-li, a historian-turned-commodore who became famous as the Hero of El Facil. Yang's brilliant tactically—he has to be, given how incompetent his own command structure is—and he fights not just to win battles but to find an actual path to lasting peace. As the war intensifies, Reinhard and Yang pursue their conflicting visions while both trying to secure their legacies as the galaxy's next great leaders.
