Giovanni tracks down Mewtwo in the Johto region and sets out to recapture it. While Ash and his friends are trying to save Pikachu from Jessie and James, they get ambushed by Domino, a Team Rocket operative, who takes them hostage. Team Rocket also captures the Clone Pokémon and uses them as leverage against Mewtwo.
