Mewtwo
Mewtwo is an artificial Pokémon created by a scientist in Kanto's Pokémon Mansion who extracted DNA from the Mythical Pokémon Mew and engineered a clone designed to be the ultimate fighting machine. The result is a bipedal, humanoid creature with feline features—gray body, long purple tail, purple underbelly, and a pair of short horns. A tube runs from the back of its skull down its spine, and its hands and feet end in spherical-tipped digits. The tail is thick at the base but tapers to a small bulb at the tip.
After enduring brutal gene-splicing experiments in the mansion, Mewtwo eventually broke free and destroyed the facility. It's become legendary as one of the most powerful Pokémon ever, though its reputation is mixed. While widely feared for its cold, vicious nature and near-unbeatable strength, the anime has shown a more complex side—capable of telepathy, levitation, mind control, and even genuine compassion. It can teleport others, create storms, and in the Detective Pikachu film, transfer human souls into Pokémon bodies. Mewtwo is rarely seen in the wild; it's said to hide in dark caves, conserving energy until battle calls for its full power.
In the Pokémon Adventures manga, Mewtwo's creation required human cells from the scientist himself to compensate for limited Mew DNA. This gave the scientist Blaine a permanent link to Mewtwo—he could track it, but at the cost of his life slowly draining away. Mewtwo maintains a notable rivalry with Mew.
Shadow Mewtwo
Shadow Mewtwo is a corrupted variant with dark gray skin and a yellow-orange-tipped tail. It formed when Anne nearly got possessed by a Shadow Synergy Stone; Mewtwo took the hit instead and merged with it. Under the stone's influence, Shadow Mewtwo roamed Ferrum draining Gaia Power from other Synergy Stones, growing stronger with each theft.
Mega Evolution Forms
Mewtwo can Mega Evolve into two distinct forms. Mega Mewtwo X becomes bulkier and more physically imposing—its horns grow longer and curve upward, it develops two tubes behind its neck, and purple ridges form a hump across its shoulders. Its forearms and legs bulk up dramatically with vein-like protrusions. This form channels psychic energy into raw muscle, granting it a grip strength of one ton and the ability to cover 100 meters in two seconds. Its arms and legs can stretch during attacks.
Mega Mewtwo Y takes the opposite approach. It shrinks, loses its tail and underbelly, and instead grows a long purple appendage from the back of its head with a curled tip. Its eyes turn red and enlarge, its chest takes on a bumpy ridge, and it hovers constantly in the air. Despite being smaller and lighter, this form has staggering mental power—it can obliterate buildings with pure thought.
Shadow Mewtwo X mirrors Mega Mewtwo X's physical structure but retains dark gray coloring and spreads the stone's yellow-orange glow across its shoulders, arm ridges, ear tips, and a Y-shaped line down its body. It achieves this form using Shadow Synergy Burst combined with accumulated Gaia Power and can revert if separated from the stone.
