Synopsis

Akito never wanted to be a mecha pilot. Growing up obsessed with the anime Gekiganger 3, he'd much rather cook than actually fight in a giant robot. That changes when his home on Mars gets destroyed and he's mysteriously transported to Earth with no real answers about what happened. When he meets a girl named Yurika by chance, he decides to follow her in hopes she might have some clues. Turns out she captains a private battleship called the Nadesico, so he joins up as their cook to stay close to her. The catch? He's got nanite implants that let him pilot mechas, which makes him a useful backup for the ship's combat team. His new crew seems like a bunch of misfits, otaku, and airheads on the surface, but they're actually handpicked specialists on a mission to avenge Mars. As they take the fight back to the Red Planet, Akito learns the hard way that real life doesn't follow the rules of his favorite anime.
