A ruthless former soldier who became one of Dr. Hell's most trusted lieutenants, Count Brocken was killed in action years before the main events of Mazinger Z. Dr. Hell later brought him back as a cyborg, giving him command of the Iron Crosses—the air force division of his vast mechanical army.
What's interesting about Brocken is his relationship with the other top villains. He and Ashura are constantly at each other's throats, both vying for Dr. Hell's favor and respect. Brocken generally has the upper hand in this rivalry, largely because he's simply the more competent commander. His cold, professional approach to military strategy tends to earn him more of Dr. Hell's confidence than Ashura's more erratic nature.
