An older man obsessed with puppetry, Leonof controls dozens of elaborate puppets using an intricate wire-and-metal-sphere system. He's capable of manipulating multiple puppets simultaneously while seeing and speaking through them, and he's crafted them to resemble real people and animals with disturbing accuracy. He targets people close to Vash, using his creations to inflict psychological and physical harm.
The manga reveals his real name is Emilio and that he crossed paths with Vash during childhood. He was once deeply in love with a woman named Isabelle, whose death sent him spiraling into obsession with his craft as a way to cope with the loss. His puppetmaking became less about artistry and more about control—and his victims become part of his collection. He dissects living people, regardless of age or gender, to construct what he considers his masterpieces.
